Sarah Buckmaster (she/her)
Community Research Associate
Sarah joined Strategic Spartanburg in April 2024, as a community research associate. With a passion for community-driven research and social advocacy, Sarah works in the realms of cultural anthropology, sustainable community development, and equity. Sarah recently graduated from Wofford College with a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology with a concentration in Community Sustainability and mixed-methods research. While at Wofford, she has served as both the Lead Student Researcher for several neighborhood-based research projects and the Sustainability Scholar. From revitalizing after-school programs across public housing sites to investigating the impact of abandoned properties on neighborhood wellness, her work resonates with a deep understanding of community dynamics and a dedication to amplifying resident voices. As the Community Research Associate at Strategic Spartanburg, Sarah works to coordinate community centered research and facilitate dialogue between communities and the data that describes them with the hope of improving the quality of life of all Spartanburg County residents. She plans to continue to research grassroots initiatives and movements for sustainable community development as she pursues a doctoral degree in cultural anthropology at Emory University in the Fall of 2024.
